Asa
Ruven has
been making beats for a minute. After spending the majority
of
his young life as an obsessive hip-hop fan, he bought some cheap-ass DJ
equipment in middle school. Naturally, the next step was to
get
himself a proper set of turntables, and, later, an MPC 2000.
After
learning the basics of his new gear, he ran into a fellow hip-hopper at
his high school who was curious about what this mystical "MPC" thing
was all about. The rest, as they say, is history.
That
curious high-schooler was Beat Make
Jake, and a production partnership was
formed. After impressing their small community, the duo
finally
found some much-needed kinship (and some rhymes) when Jake
hooked them up with Third
Touch. The Mass
Production crew was formed, and
Asa had more reason than ever to keep churning out beats. He proceeded
to lace Mass Pro
with numerous beats for songs, shows, freestyles, and more, and helped
put together If
A Beat
Drops In The Woods..., he and Jake's first album. After
hopping around the country for a few years, he's settled down in
Brooklyn, and currently holds it down for Mass Pro in the big city.
Nowadays, you're likely to find Asa getting dusty at
a
record store near you, copping obscure hip-hop CDs on eBay, or trying
to
convince Phreeze Phrame to record a new song. Or just
making beats.
