Mass
Pro's
resident metaphysicist, Phreeze
Phrame, has been making music for as
long as any of us can remember. Using nothing but a
ridiculously basic computer program and his own warped mind, he wrote,
produced, recorded, mixed, and distributed his first two albums
independently in 2004 and 2005. These two albums, the rarely-heard Home Grown
and the
dark, moody Thickly
Settled established Phreeze's reputation for
spine-tingling beats and reflective, cerebral rhymes.
After
linking with local MCs Big Loop and Stickafus, Phreeze stepped his
game up, collaborating on several projects, including the Genesis
album with Stick and Loop's debut LP, Real
Recognized, entirely produced by Phreeze. Still
not satisfied, he then furthered his collaborative efforts via the
Internet, working with MCs as far away as Missouri and producers as far
away as Norway. Hooking up with local hip-hop junkies Beat Make
Jake and Asa Ruven, Phreeze helped establish the Mass
Production squad in 2007.
For a couple years, he lost interest in
music, recording only the occasional "Diggin" or "Throw It Out The
Window." Self
Preservation was supposed to be his long-awaited third solo
album, but a couple songs in, he decided to quit rapping. We've
coaxed him into dropping a couple more verses since (don't miss him on
"Funkular"), but lately he's been all about the beats. Since
finally breaking down and buying an MPC, Phreeze has rekindled the
fire, and now he's planning an instrumental album called Lost In The
Cosmos. Will it happen? One can only hope.
